IMS STRATUS
QHSE MANAGEMENT WEBSITE APPLICATION
Design and development of an end-to-end bespoke web and mobile application, payment system, and website. IMS Stratus is a Project management platform purposely designed for Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental.
The Story
IMS Stratus approached MOBLE to build an integrated web based quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE) management system. The system would be vast in breadth enabling project management across a wide scope of industries from one integrated website application. The application can help businesses control product quality, improve safety, minimise environmental footprint, and automate compliance. It can be used for all constituents within a project from admin and reporting at the office to remotely in the field, on mobile phones, even when out of internet connectivity.
The Villain
AGENCY V'S INHOUSE?
Often when businesses decide to choose an Agency for their website platform development, there is careful consideration in weighing up the pros and cons of hiring staff directly, or paying an agency such as MOBLE to develop the project for them. Delivering a platform will require the initial project team, but also if successful, a team of developers to ensure it can scale long into the future.
Hiring your own staff has it's advantages. Assuming that you find the right people, it's typically advisable to make at least the lead developer an equity partner, to ensure they don't leave for anther job and your investment precariously in limbo. If you can get the right people and remunerate them, then you have some scope to start developing and deliver your project.
Though, hiring a team and giving away equity is a high risk commitment, especially before you've had the opportunity to test your idea in the market. The Hero
With IMS Stratus being such a vast development project with a huge amount of features, it was sensible to work in an Agile project methodology.
Throughout the project, we run regular project workshops to rank features on our tried and tested ICEP scoring system; which allows features to be grouped into Sprints and prioritised into an immediate MVP, and the longer term project Road Map.
WHAT ARE SPRINTS, MVP, ROADMAP AND AGILE?
Rather than provide a high cost quotation with a lengthy delivery time, MOBLE likes to work in rounds of high speed, low cost development Sprints that quickly deliver tangible results for our clients. We call this process of short, intensive bursts of development 'Agile' methodology.
The core benefit of Agile methodology is that our clients can quickly go live with an MVP (Minimum Viable Product); which allows our clients to start their sales and marketing immediately, with a streamlined product that includes all the essential product features, while other non-essential functionality is scheduled into future development sprints on a project Road Map, and released over time. The Road Map is also organised by Sprints that have a fixed cost. So our clients can book Sprints in advance and be in control of their rollout and their budget.
This process helps new businesses plan their initial startup cash flow. It ensures that clients can test the market, and reduce risk by ensuring they can actually sell their services before they start investing vast sums, and wasting huge amounts of time in lengthy project builds.
WHAT IS ICEP?
A project with MOBLE starts with a series of intensive workshops. Our pre-sales budgeting, scoping and quotation process has already documented the core features, that enables us to confidently price the MVP at a fixed cost.
We take these core features and log them into a shared Project Management board, like Trello or Monday, where we can assign every feature with the following scoring system:
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Once each feature has been defined, priced, tagged, and prioritised, they are placed into development Sprints. We charge our clients a fixed cost per Sprint.
Sprints are one week long, plus a following buffer week to test and debug. Sprints include a Lead Developer, Assistant Developer and a Project Manager.
The MVP often requires 4 Sprints. With a large project like IMS Stratus, 9 Sprints were organised for the MVP. With a forecasted additional 11 Sprints added to the Road Map.

The Happy Ever After
HIRING THE FIRST INHOUSE DEVELOPER FOR IMS
With the MVP delivered on time and on budget, IMS Stratus had spoke to many customers, was confident in their business and ready to start accelerating.
As such the business required a whole new round of work to meet the demands of client feedback and assist with new Sprints.
It was time for MOBLE recruit a dedicated web developer for IMS Stratus, which was to become the first step for IMS Stratus to scale in their own independent environment. At the same time they also hire a client services manager.
As part of the recruitment MOBLE knew exactly the type of web developer that was needed. We recruited a Junior Developer with great potential and trained them to fill in any gaps and help them grow.
Recruitment of a Web Developer was an area foreign to the client, they were comforted that MOBLE could hold their hand through this process and find the right person, and train them into the roll. MOBLE handled all the initial, and ongoing, training for the developer. It was agreed that for the first 6 months the developer would work 2 days a week at MOBLE and 3 days with IMS STRATUS.
This was a very rewarding arrangement for both IMS STRATUS and MOBLE. We look forward to continuing the relationship as we rollout ever more features and enjoy being part of the project as IMS STRATUS continues to grow and scale.
